We are hoping to start a play therapy area here at Scott School next school year. We are asking teachers and parents to donate toys in good repair that your children no longer want. We also need clear plastic shoe boxes for storage.
If you know of anybody that can build and is willing to donate their time to constructing a sand table for the play therapy area that would be great. The hope is that the play therapy area can be used by any child that is struggling that is accompanied by a staff member.

KIDS COOKING DEMOS AT THE HOLLYWOOD FARMERS MARKET!
We will be hosting kids cooking demos once per month throughout the summer (starting this weekend!) and will have information for families available in English and Spanish, including recipes, etc.
Joanna Sooper from Turnip the Heat cooking school will be at the market once a month to lead “market sprouts” in cooking demos featuring a different fruit or vegetable each month. Demos will run from 8:30am-noon at the Hollywood Farmers Market, located on NE Hancock between 44th and 45th Avenues.
Glancing around the walls of elementary classrooms you will immediately know what your students are studying in science and social studies. You’ll see many charts with photos, others drawn by teachers and labeled with important vocabulary, and big charts of lyrics to songs and chants teaching academic concepts. This is because teachers have been using many new strategies this year, learned from a training called Project GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design).
Check out the visuals, and ask your children to recite or sing about the current topics:
- Kindergarten: “Solids, Liquids, Gases”
- First grade: “Pebbles, Sand, Silt”
- Second grade: “Balance and Motion”
- Third grade: “Rock Cycle”
- Fourth grade: “Volcanoes”
- Fifth grade: “European Explorers”
Kindergarten Round Ups are happening at Scott!
It would be great if Scott parents could attend some of these as in years past. I know having our neighbor’s input really helped us make the decision to put our child in the immersion program. And it’s a great way to build community!

Thurs, Feb. 27, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Wed, Mar. 12, 6 – 7 p.m.
