Additional information about the meeting provided by the district:

Program change proposal for
Rigler and Scott Elementary Schools

Definition of Terms

Neighborhood-based English program: Classrooms where instruction occurs in English.

Neighborhood-based Spanish Dual Language program: Classrooms where instruction occurs in Spanish and English.

What it means for students

The proposal calls for changes in the Rigler and Scott neighborhood-based English programs starting in the 2018-2019 school year. The goal of the proposal is to improve services at both schools. Spanish Dual Language Immersion programs will continue at both schools as currently structured.

If approved, students in the Rigler neighborhood-based English program would attend the Scott neighborhood-based English program. Rigler would then offer a neighborhood-based Spanish DLI program only. Transportation to Scott will be provided for students living one mile or more from the school.

Staff is working with current 4th grade families in Rigler’s Neighborhood-Based English program to determine whether that grade level will remain at Rigler next year, or move to Scott, along with grades K-3.

What about middle school? Current 5th graders in the Rigler neighborhood-based English program will be allowed to enroll at Beaumont for 6th grade.

Students who complete 5th grade in the combined English program at Scott will attend Roseway Heights for middle school.
