PPS Policy 5.60.017P and Administrative Directive 5.60.016-AD require
“meaningful participation in the principal selection process by representatives of the school community…. includ[ing] staff, parents, community members and students”.
These directives state that parents should be meaningfully involved in both the selection criteria written into the job advertisement and the selection of the principal. Yet recent practice reveals that PPS administrators find parental engagement messy and thus ignore it during the hiring process.
So, Scott parents, students, and staff went to the PPS Board on November 18th and asked them to reverse that trend and follow board policy. We asked them for both a great permanent leader AND an exemplary engagement process to identify that person.
